I have a great dog...a German Shepard...he's very loyal, playful, affectionate and the greatest watch dog I ever had...8 yrs old this year and still faithful to my whole family!!!!! So I vote for the German Shepard.....

Don't get the shepherd or the Doberman, they're biting breeds and your father's home owner's insurance could get canceled because of them.
That leaves the boxer, wiener dog or the Dane.
You know Danes are HUGE, right? And they tend to slobber all over everything when they get hot, so it may not be the best to get a Dane. Plus it'll take a lot more walking to tire them out than it would a smaller breed.
I don't like wiener dogs, but they are kind of cute and cuddly.
The boxer tends to be a bit too energetic for me, but I like them.
I couldn't decide which one to suggest, so I flipped a coin and it came up tails, so get the wiener dog.

I would go with either the German Shepard or Boxer. Great Danes max life span is 8 yrs, Dobermans need lots of training and they are somewhat nervous dogs, Dashcund are tempermental. Shepards need a lot of training, but are smart, loyal and loving. Boxers are great for families, and need training also, but probably a close comparison to the lab you had.

WHY give away a Lab?? The only good choice would be to keep the lab. Love it and treat it with respect. It is a living, feeling being. Maybe you should NOT get another dog.

I wouldn't recommend any of those. If you couldn't handle a lab, or had one but gave him away, you can't handle any other breed. Labs are one of the smartest, most loyal dogs. If you can't get along with that breed, you shouldn't have a dog at all.

Why did he make you get rid of the lab? I wouldn't bother getting another dog, because it sounds like either you or your dad just don't want one or the responsibility of owning one. Dogs are a life time commitment, just like kids are; they are not garbage to be tossed out or gotten rid of when the fun is gone, when they get bigger, when they make a mess in the house, or when you just don't feel like taking care of them anymore.

Definitely go with a boxer. If you want a puppy that needs lots of loving, then go with the boxer. I love my dog, and he is a boxer. They will stay faithful to their owner. BTW Sorry about you lab, I know how that feels.

Why did you give away your lab? I don't think I can answer the question the way you want it answered until I know the details of why you gave your other dog away. Sorry.
