No, the british don't boil their pancakes. Pancake comes in a sticky liquid form before it's cooked, so boiling it doesn't work, since you're not cooking soup. The end result would be a murky mess.
The frying lets it solidify as high heat travels through it, but even then, it's still quite soft.

no. i lived there for 2 years while my husband was in the service. they don't have what we call pancakes there's is more like the crepes. real thin.

I always make the soft American style ones. Much nicer than the **** things my parents make on shrove Tuesday.
