Honestly, there is no seperate breed, they are just chihuahuas. Some people think its better to breed them smaller and sell them for large amounts of money. The so called Tea-cup chihuahua has so many health risks, a shorter life span, and really isn't worth it to pay so much money for. The smaller females shouldn't be bred due to the possibility of throwing a pup larger than they can deliver, because they all came from regular size chihuahuas. Most back yard breeders call them teacup chihuahuas.

There is no such thing as a "teacup" Chihuahua (or teacup anything else) and there are no "toy" Chihuahuas either (Chihuahuas ARE a toy breed) A Chihuahua is a Chihuahua no matter size. The word "Teacup" is nothing more then a sales tactic used by irresponsible breeders. Breeders who delibrately breed dogs smaller then the size the standard calls for are irresponsible and are doing a disservice to the breed. Breeding smaller/larger then the breed calls for can cause some very serious health issues...skeletal structure, organ size./function among other issues.

There is no recognized breed called "teacup" but breeders are trying to size down the chi. Be cautious however. They weren't meant to be that small and many of them suffer from health problems.

There are unethical breeders who breed together very small chihuahua's and call them teacup. They are not a separate breed though, or even a variant the way poodles have three different sizes. They are just a really small and invariably unhealthy chihuahua.

Lucianna , GetEmGang is correct in the answer. You confirm the fact that some people don`t want the truth even when it hits them right between the eyes. Have you read the breed standard as suggested? If you do, I doubt you would admit you are el wrongo.

To Getemgang
People are Maroons? Short for macaroons? Some form of macaroni? What are you trying to say?
There is a teacup breed in Chihuahuas and poodles. Maybe you should take your own advise. (The official name may not be "teacup" but it's what it's commonly called). Give us a break you maroon.
