If its thyroid malfunction there are pills to give him. If he has lupus like many collies do you need to talk to your vet. I can't remember what I gave my 14 year old collie. He also could have a flea allergy. Collies have a lot of skin problems.

You are so lucky to have a collie live to be that old. Most large dogs don't live so long. What does the vet say about the shedding? Rough collies shed a lot because of the massive undercoat they have. They require a lot of brushing. My collies used to shed worse in the fall of the year. If he is healthy, I wouldn't be concerned.

Birds molt, dogs shed.

People lose hair all year round and dogs do too. If your dog is inside all the time, or you live in a warm climate, they will shed even more. Brush them daily to keep down the hair all around the house.

Even it is an excessive hair loss, that is to the point where your dog is developing bald patches, take them to the vet for an accurate diagnosis.

If he doesn't have mange, then it's probably just due to age. 14 yrs is really getting up there for a dog as large as a Collie. Buy him a sweater for the winter, and enjoy your remaining time with him.

None. It's the age you know. Collie's lifespan is 12-14 yrs, I must say your dog is in his twilights.

when you say "molting" I assume you mean shedding?? To shed their coats for 12 months is not healthy. It sounds like a defficiency in his diet. Try vitamins.

What is his diet? Deficiencies can cause excess shedding. Has the vet seem him recently? Thyroid problems or other metabolic problems can also cause it.
