"good" is a very ambigious word. Yes, I suppose that it can be good if not used against another, to try to convert another, or as any sort of weapon to try to get someone to do your bidding.
Also, as long as a person has their own faith - whatever that may be - is comfortable with it, and it is then there at least psychologically for said person to draw strength from when needed, I don't see how there can be anything wrong with that.
But if people start using religion to hide their corruption behind, to threaten or "hold ever" another person, to blackmail or extort. And most of all, religion can be misused in the way we see it happening every day at this present tijme. An excuse to wage war and murder others because they do not share your faith.
I guess it's a double edged sword, in a sense.

Religion can be very good, or very bad. Religion with out spirituality is very bad. When people are so focused on the rules and using religion to control others, that is bad. Religion can also be very loving and uplifting. If one does not pay attention to the true message of most major religions, love and forgiveness, then bad things happen.

all societies have religion in some form or another. you can tell the type of society by it's religion but you can tell the type of religion by it's society. the type of religion does NOT necessairly need to be Christian to work as was demonstrated by the Native American Religion which was here when Christians first arrived. There was also the Norse Religion which worked for that society before Christianity, along with the Druid Religion and numberless others. Remember Christianity is a relative new comer in the Religious Community. JESUS was not a Christian but of the Jewish until HE died bringing a new Religion into being.

Religion isn't good. A RELATIONSHIP with Jesus Christ is good though. There is a difference between religion and relationship. If I never miss a Green Bay Packers game, the Green Bay Packers are my religion. You can go to church every Sunday, that's your religion, but do you have a relationship with Jesus?

It's neither.
Relgion is a neutral thing. It is neither good nor bad. It's is simply a set of instructions to man. There are many religions, and most of them are based on the same rightous principles. We can choose to interpret those as we wish, but it is us - the human race - that makes religion good or bad. We can choose to follow those guide lines into making us incredible, good people, or we can choose to interpret them in such a way - sometimes too literally, sometimes too loosely - that they make us dark, and bad.
Religion isn't to blame - people are.

Religion is grey. It's only as good as the uses it's put to, which having been decidedly mixed render it a moral grey.

Religion is like a knife.
You can use it to accomplish good, or use it for bad.
