Hello!! :o) I hope you're OK. I'm a Christian. I believe in God and Jesus. But NOT because I was surrounded by 'loving Christians' - but because I wasn't. Most of the people in my life who claimed to be 'Christians' were truly awful, self-serving creatures. SO awful - in fact - that I decided to find out more about Jesus for MYSELF- BEFORE deciding to dismiss the whole 'God thing' all together. And I'm glad I did. For what I found out was that God would NOT be pleased with what many of His so-called 'followers' were saying and doing. I decided that it would be best if I followed Christ - and NOT man. I am - therefore - a non-religious Christian. Do I understand all of it? NO. Can I 'prove' that God and Jesus really exist? NO. Do I feel obligated to convince others to become a Christian - just like me?! NO. All I can do is tell you what I believe and IF what I say [and who I AM] causes you to seek out God for yourself - great. But that's up to you. CAN you understand that?! Craig!! :o)

Well that was a bit of a vent. When people try to convert me to one thing or another, I ask if they would like me to try to convert them to something that they didn't believe in. I am however more than happy to be educated objectively about the various belief systems ...I just don't feel the need to have opinions rammed down my throat :)

Religion is a very private matter. No one can prove anything about religion to another person. It is a personal belief. God cannot be proved or disproved, but it is not up to anyone to try to cram their beliefs or non-beliefs down anyone's throats. I consider myself an Agnostic, though I do believe there is God.
I'm not a Christian anymore, because I think the Bible is a book written by men, with a lot of good advice, but not "the word of God". I think Jesus Christ was a great Holy man, but if he was the son of God, then we are all sons and daughters of God. I can't stand hate-filled uber-judgmental Christians. I doubt they learned anything about Christianity. They are just trying to "save" their own butts.

i'm totally with you to a point! I myself am a non religious Christian not a non believer because I still believe! many people have screwed me and my family over and they were "saints" in the church! It made me look really deep also and I would rather follow Christ! In the end you should forgive them because they are not perfect only God is, also it is our jobs to spread the word out to get people to start thinking not with their minds but with their hearts! If they don't want to hear it then fine I can move on from that and still be a good friend to them! So just be carefull with that!

Welcome to the club.

I did about the exact same thing.

Smells a lot better over here doesn't it. Something about intolerance leaves a sickening odor for me.

I don't feel obligated to prove anything to anyone either, but if you want to understand the teachings of Jesus better I suggest that you get a book called the course in miracles. Trust me on this one.

Its just perfect for someone who has recently come out of the darkness of christian mythology like we have. It does not claim to be the one true and only answer, only one of many. That's what first drew me to it. It's worth the time and effort it takes to read it.

Love and blessings

You sound a little on the sarcastic side. I sort of understand why you feel that you do not need to prove anything to anyone , on the other hand your story of how you came to faith could be a great inspiration to alot of people.I am thankful you found the Lord for yourself inspite of the people that you were around, that is fantastic. I too had been around a few who claimed to be christians and actually used the faith for bad things. It makes me rejoie evev more toshare my story inhopes of helping others. You make some excellent points, but I guess maybe it is anger at those who claimed to be one thing and then were not that you are upset with. That is okay but if you can try to share your stroy with more of an upbeat thought you could help alot of people and Christdoes want us to hekp others come to Him. Continues to grow in your faith for God does love you.

I think everything would just blow over if we all agreed to "play in our own sandbox". The religious people can stay in the religion section and play cheerleader for God. If you must argue with someone, argue with some other religious person. The scientific and philosophy people can stay in the science and philosophy section and play mental masturbation games. They, too, can argue with each other.

But that won't happen because there is people on both sides who like to visit the opposing camp's "sandbox" and "pose" questions just to inflame the opposing camp.

I don't find either side very open minded.

Belief (I mean scientific as well as religious) prevents learning.

Nope it's not your responsibility to prove anything to anyone, unless your the defendant in a criminal trial. Even then I suppose you could plead the fifth.

It is a requirement of courtesy and good writing to break up your gabble into reasonably sized pieces to aid readability and make an incoherent rant superficially resemble the product of a well ordered mind.

If the no proof thing doesn't bother you why you be all hatin' up in us non-believers grill yo?

Yes I understand that. I too was treated cruelly by Christians when I was in their fold. My choice was to depart from them forever and find another faith to believe in. You made the choice to remain a Christian but denounce the organized church. I can respect that. I hope you can respect my choice of becoming a non-believer in all Christianity. No one has to prove anything to me. I hope things work out for you.

You are right, most christians were exactly the same before they came to the Lord and thru God peace controls everything you do. May God bless you and guide you thru your walking with the Lord. Many will discourage you but be strong and God will guide you thru many steps you take let God be the first in your heart always and forever.........

Masterful, Craig -- thank you! Some sincere Christians are embarrassed by their fellow Christians, so they prefer to be called followers of Jesus.
