Islam is the art of eating cheese. It was founded by Muhammed the legendary cheese-eater, who broke the international Arabian record and eat 2 slices of tesco's Cheddar cheese without being sick.
Today it is a globally followed religion with some terrorists who claim jihad on all those who dont eat cheese

As a Muslim i should tell you that Islam comes from the word Salam which means Peace. It's a Religion that encourages brotherhood other that being enemies, Peace not terrorism (YES IT"S TRUE, T.V BRAINWASHES TO THINK ISLAM IS ALL ABOUT TERRORISM). The basis are five thing; Believing that there is only one God and that Mohammad(May peace be above him) is the prophet of God (al-shahada), Praying on time to God (five prayers every day), fasting Ramadan (a holy month), giving to the poor, visiting the sacred Mosque (al-masjid al-Haram) in Mecca if you're able (to afford, not healthy)

world religion founded by the Prophet Muhammad. Founded in the 7th cent.,
At the core of Islam is the Qur'an, believed to be the final revelation by a transcendent Allah [Arab.,=the God] to Muhammad, the Prophet of Islam; since the Divine Word was revealed in Arabic, this language is used in Islamic religious practice worldwide. Muslims believe in final reward and punishment, and the unity of the umma, the "nation" of Islam. Muslims submit to Allah through arkan ad-din, the five basic requirements or "pillars" : shahadah, the affirmation that "there is no god but God, and Muhammad is the Messenger of God" ; salah, the five daily ritual prayers (see liturgy, Islamic); zakat, the giving of alms, also known as a religious tax; Sawm, the dawn-to-sunset fast during the lunar month of Ramadan; and hajj, the pilgrimage to Mecca. The importance of the hajj can hardly be overestimated: this great annual pilgrimage unites Islam and its believers from around the world.

Islam is said to be a religion built upon allegiance to the God called ALA whose "messenger" is the "Prophet Mohammed". All other "religions" are wrong.

Islam is a metaphor of the basic leader-followers concept. Mohammed is the King and he is the Messenger of God ALA. Wise and experienced men needed to build order in the society so they used the stories to scare people into submission and discipline, often for good intentions. Conversion into Islam is actually negligible.

The real "threat" to world peace is Christianity, not Islam.

The Arabic word ‘ Islam’ stands for ‘Submission’ or ‘Peace’. In a religious context, it implies the peace that reaches out to one when one completely submits oneself to the will of Almighty God. This is achieved only when the individual acts in accordance with the direction of his Creator in all spheres of life.

bismillaah (in the name of God)

Linguistically, the word 'Islam' is an Arabic word that means submitting/surroundering (to the will of God Almighty).

Islam has two meanings (as an Islamic terminology):

1. The religion that Allaah, God Almighty, has ordained to and accepts from man. Accordingly to the this first definition, Muslims believe that all prophets and messengers (peace be upon them)whom God sent were Muslim (follower of Islam) and they called to worship Allaah (God) alone and not to associate any body/thing with Him in worship. However, the message of each prophet/messenger was for certain time and people.

2. The final message of Muhammad (peace be upon him) by which revelation was ended. Since this message was the final one of the very religion it got known by the name of the religion. Quraan states clearly that the message is addressed to all mankind.
-----

"Say (O Muslims), "We believe in Allâh and that which has been sent down to us and that which has been sent down to Ibrâhîm (Abraham), Ismâ‘îl (Ishmael), Ishâq (Isaac), Ya‘qûb (Jacob), and to Al-Asbât [the offspring of the twelve sons of Ya‘qûb (Jacob)], and that which has been given to Mûsâ (Moses) and ‘Îsâ (Jesus), and that which has been given to the Prophets from their Lord. We make no distinction between any of them, and to Him we have submitted (in Islâm)." Quraan 2:136
