He did not preach any religion. He was born a Jew and he practiced Judaism. He kept the law as no other Jew had ever kept the law and he celebrated all the feasts. Jesus came to offer humankind a better way. This better way became Christianity, a way that is not under the law but under grace. When Jesus returns he will not come back in the guise of a religious leader, but will return as the Son of God. There is no religion with God. Religion is a man-made thing----self-righteousness, trying to get to God through the devices of men, rather than through righteous action and behavior, which is the way God wants it done. Jesus will call all those that believe in him and they will come from the dead and from the living.

Jesus was a Jew - - - no doubt or argument and he was not bent on creating a new religion - - - he truly loved being a Jew which is Why he chose to be a Rabbi rather than a Carpenter like his Father - - - Joseph. Peace....
Clarification // Jesus taught Messianic Judaism - - - the belief that one should be prepared to greet the Messiah - - - in order to be 'prepared' one had to follow various teachings, though teachings as recorded by Mathew John James and Luke included Baptism, communal prayer, striving for peaceful resolutions to conflict in order to avoid committing the sin of murder hatred & bigotry. Many feel that Jesus was much into the teachings of the Essene,
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dead_Sea_Scrolls
The Dead Sea scrolls comprise roughly 825-870 documents, including texts from the Hebrew Bible, discovered between 1947 and 1956 in eleven caves in and around the Wadi Qumran (near the ruins of the ancient settlement of Khirbet Qumran, on the northwest shore of the Dead Sea). The texts are of great religious and historical significance, as they are practically the only known surviving Biblical documents written before CE 100
According to a view almost universally held until the 1990s, the documents were written and hidden by a community of Essenes who lived in the Qumran area. This is known as the Essene Hypothesis. Jews revolted against the Romans in CE 66. Before they were massacred by Roman troops, the Essenes hid their scriptures in caves, not to be discovered until 1947. The opinion that the authors of the Dead Sea Scrolls were Essenes is the most prevalent view among scholars (Abegg et al 2002 ). Since the 1990s a version of this theory, which we will call the "Essene theory Mark 2", has been gaining prominence. This theory stresses that the Dead Sea Scrolls sect was "Essene-Like" or a splinter Essene group rather than simply Essenes as such. Such a theory takes into account some significant differences between the world view of the Scrolls sect and the Essenes, as described by the classical authors

If you really want to know then I suggest that you read a book called the course in miracles. It is a more recent revelation of the teachings of Jesus and it plainly states his teachings without the 2,000 years of additions and mistranslations that the bible gives us.
Yes I know I was skeptical too, but if you actually read it it becomes clear that this book is for real.
One thing is for sure, Jesus would never be a christian. Christianity has become like an exclusive club that excludes more than it includes.
Jesus could never accept this judgmental idea as his own.
Remember, Judge not lest ye be judged.
Love and blessings

Jesus Christ, the Son of God, is of no earthly religion. While on earth, he kept the Law of Moses, observed feast days, sacrifices, and all the physical aspects of the Mosaic law. He also spoke of the fall of the old law, and the coming of the new law, after His death. When He spoke of the kingdom, He referred to His church which would be established in Acts 2, on the day of Pentecost, and referred to, throughout the remainder of the New Testament. As you study the book of Revelation, Christ reveals to John that the Temple in heaven is not a physical temple, but a spiritual temple made up of those who have been added to the church (by God) and have lived faithful and obedient lives on the earth. God is worshipped as the Father. Christ is worshipped, as the Son, who has won a victory over Satan, sin, and death, through his obedience and perfection. Man has established denominations, on earth, and ignored the pattern for His church, in the New Testament.

He followed the traditions of the Jews at that time.
But He claimed their leaders had forgot the real meaning of those traditions and he claimed to be the Messiah and divine.
He taught the same true religion as Moses and the prophets did the catholic and universal religion.

Jesus is the Christ...the Messiah. Christianity is the following of Jesus. So Jesus was the start of Christianity. But Jesus taught us to not worship him [ Jesus] but to worship his heavenly Father, Almighty God.
Does almighty God have a personal name???
Yes. Exodus 3; 13-15 & 6;3.
