Carbon dioxide is trapped in the liquid in question by pressurizing the liquid in a co2 rich atmosphere. Relieving that pressure or agitating it releases the carbon dioxide in the form of tiny bubbles often called 'fizz'. When the fizz is gone, your soda-pop is con-sidered to have gone flat!
