i think maybe relay or security system

symptom Turn Key to start engine and all Lights go off
Turn key to Acc, and doors Lock, there is a pbk/? light which is on.

tried starting in park, neutral, and with new key.

there is a small led near shifter. it blinks when key is turned on, but we have never had or used any security fob so always thought it to be a fake. now question if it might be real and cutting out ignition voltage.

last, can hear a relay near pass/kick panel, but relay under hood does not activate.

we will check volts tomorrow, but thought someone could cut diag short.

thanks

Not Battery, we tried jumping just in case
Those pin numbers seem high, but will check range in Light, 3 hours.

As for loss power, just replaced batt about 2 months back, and no prob. So, unless they maintained power while swapping batts there is no power loss sensors.

this sounds like aftermarket anti theft remove pass kick and find interrupter relay you will see a rats nest of aftermarket wiring if the relay is of a standard type jump pins 30 and 86 [note pin 87a is rest terminal and some systems use this instead of 86] in any event these wires will be approx 10 gauge this should get your engine to spin over, and hopefully it is a cheepo system with no fuel cut or ignition cut

Now, as for all the lights going off when trying to start the car, that can be related to your battery (which has enough juice to turn the lights on and what have you when you put the key in the ignition and try to turn it over and enough juice to make your doorlock (security) crap work, but just not enough to turn it over, and then it peters out altogether. It could also be a burnt starter. The armature could be burnt and shorted out. Also, check your battery cables for coorosion and clean them and replace those cables if need be. Also, are you sure there isn't some type of little kill switch/button inside the car? It could very well be cutting out your ignition voltage so no thieves can just get in and hotwire it. It will most likely be hidden on the back side of the steering column or under a floor mat or up under the dash somewhere. I honestly don't feel a relay is your problem. I hope this helps. I'm just a dumb woman driver and lifelong shop brat. Good luck and when you do figure it out, let me know. Oh, I almost forgot, check your neautral safety switch if you have one and make sure you always start it in park or neutral and with a standard, always step on the clutch pedal. Good luck! :)

The anti-theft is activated, and you must have the remote in order to reset it. Every time the vehicle looses power as in changing the battery, the anti-theft will activate, and the vehicle will not do anything! The only way I know of to dis-arm the system is with the remote. This is very frustrating, and should be taken off them, but this is how it is. I worked in a shop for years, and had this to happen to us. When we had removed the transmission for rebuild, we always took the battery cables off to keep from burning the shop down. We had to have the customer bring the remote to the shop to dis-arm the thing with the remote before it would do anything! It happened to us twice, and after that we started using a power supply that plugged into the cigarette lighter to keep the system powered up while we worked on them. This can drive a good man to drinking! As for shop brat in the above answer, she does know what she is talking about, for a girl ha ha! Hey I would hire her any day of the week. Seems she knows her way around a car, and that is rare. My hat is off to her, as she makes some very strong points. Good Luck!
