I was just wondering the same thing!! It is very annoying to constantly see words misspelled, or misused here or anywhere else on the web. I think people are just getting lazy. Apparently it takes too much effort to click that little "Check Spelling" button.
I heard a while ago (and I'm not sure that it is true) that most American adults read at a 3rd grade level. I just don't understand it, we use the English language every single day so why can't we get it right?

So people are wrong (or have something wrong with them) simply because they annoy you?
Have you nothing better to do with your life than to get bothered over people's lack of good grammar? If it annoys you so much don't log on to the website.
Have you ever considered that some people have not been as fortunate as you apparently are been to have good schooling? Or, here's another thought, maybe just maybe English is not the first language of everyone on this planet and therefore of everyone using this website - that thought ever occur to you?
Finally - what if people just don't care? maybe THEY have better things to do with their lives than to worry about spelling and grammar and just get the fact that it's the actual message in the answer that counts.

Two things: people don't care about spelling or grammar, for one; for two, people don't know how to spell correctly or use grammar properly in English... ask me, I know, I'm a high school teacher, and although my subject area is Spanish, I see all the time how poor my students' English is.
Basically, if the question is very bad as far as orthography or grammar, I ignore it, and I definitely ignore it if it's written like it were a text message with all the stupid abbreviations.

The same thing that is wrong with people not properly capitalizing the beginning of a sentence. (See your original post)
"I'm really annoyed by the poor spelling and grammar on here....what is wrong with people?"
Things that make you say, "Hmmm!"

Well you are right. English is such a wonderful language and we tend to dog it by using slang, colloquialisms and misspellings. Some of us take pride in our ability to speak, write and communicate correctly but others rebel by slighting the language.
Long, long ago when computers were just emerging as a communications tool, people would shorten or use broken or abbreviated words to save space. But now we've got so much harddrive space and spell checkers and word processors that it isn't neccessary anymore.

Yes. The spellings and grammer mistakes in text are very much annoying. It tarnish t he entire reading material and makes it a hosh posh of words. Sometime grammer mistakes are also very common. They do not take note of verb and noun and past or present sentences into their control. The reasons for these mistakes are not difficult to find. 1. The spoken english and written english are variance as in former case men and women just want to convey their meaning and intention to others whereas in the later case grammer mistakes are committed unknowingly as they are not aware that they have committed these grammer mistakes. It is much better if we look and correct grammer and spelling mistakes in our writings.

So am I. Some people are simply careless and lazy, and it is ludicrous to blame bad spelling on a faulty spell-checker. If spelling were taught in schools better perhaps we would not have this problem!
Spelling matters - it is what makes language understandable and universal so that we can all understand one another better.

I learned good grammar from my parents, and from reading voraciously as a child. I think that many present-day parents don't have the language skills to pass on to their children; likewise, reading as something to actually do for fun (gasp!!!) has fallen out of fashion, or has been replaced by television and computers.
That being said, I would prefer that people express themselves rather than worrying about their language skills to the point that they don't speak up.

Some of us are doomed to be grammar nazis. I'm one too. However, there are more important things in this life, so I try not to let poor spellers and poor communicators become a source of annoyance.

With yahooanswers full of kids there is bound to have some repercussions from it. Bad grammar is just one of them. Receiving answers from them that my dog could have answered better is another. Most kids on here do not have an intelligent thought. They just type whatever 'pops' into their head. The ones that just put "Thanks for the 2 points" really proves my point.
