As a Marine I am biased to our airborne artillery. I love the sound of a Harrier or a Sea Cobra on the morning air. The Marine pilot's primary role is, and are trained specifically for, close air support. But, if I we were getting shot up on the beach, then the closest fly boy with some ordinance and a grudge will do me fine. I'll buy the beer when we get to the rear for whoever shows up. Semper Fi !!!

You forgot a few choices there bub...
You forgot Naval Aviation and the Army does have superb Attack Helos in the AH-64D Apache Longbow.
Since you mentioned Army Infantry I am assuming some Army Air Squadrons would be available.
But lets rule out Army for a sec as this is a Beach Assault you are talking about even if some Army units are involved.

I would rule out USAF not because they are crap (They are not) but because the other two choices (Marine and Naval) have a better understanding and better training when it comes to specifically a CAS role on a beach-head.

and though I am a Navy guy myself I would have to say I would go with Marine Aviation because the Marines historically have a better understanding and communication with the guys on the ground.
However in certain situations the Navy would still be the better choice only because they have a wider selection of HURT they can put on a target. The Marines have a few F/A-18's and a lot of Harriers (Harriers can't carry much in Air-to-Mud Ordinance)
The Navy has a LOT of F/A-18's including the new F/A-18E Super-hornet. and while not as close as the Marines. the Navy still has close ties with the men on the ground.
USAF would be better utilized supporting inland Army and Marine Units.

You boys and girls ever heard of the A-10. I do believe it is a close air support aircraft as well as a tank killer. I heard a report while in Iraq about some marines who were pinned down and surrounded. The marine command staff had written off those marines as KIA. Two F-16s showed up, started slinging lead and created an escape route. Those marines lived to fight another day because of AF close support.

Part of planning an attack involves provision of air support.

Since this is a beach scenario, almost undoubtedly Navy and Marine air would be supporting.

For close-in support, USAF is very unlikely. Their mission is traditionally different, though they sure did come through in all respects in Bosnia.

If they were "Pinned-Down-On-The-Beach", I would have to call on our friends in the U.S.Navy to open up a new ****** for the enemy with their 16 inch guns. After a lengthy 24 hr. bombardment, For good measure, I would call in B-52's for some "Carpet-Bombing". after a few hours of that, I would say about 20 or so F-15's fully-loaded with "Napalm" for low-level air strikes. After that, there should not even be "Bacteria" on that beach-head! Enjoy your day at the beach men! Who has the Keg? hahahaha. God Bless America, and our Troops! 1st. Devil Dogs of the air 100%

The Air force guys perfer to chase MIG's than do close air. Marines, CAS is their primary mission. Plus The AV8b's and Cobra's tend to be close by on a LHA. AF? much further away...

In the event of a beach invasion by the USMC, there would already be a USMC air support force standing by off-shore to pund enemy positions with Harriers & Cobras.

If it were the army infantry-men instead of USMC, they would be supported by a CV off-shore standing by with F/A-18.

The question in both cases would not be who we would call for air support but rather who's the nearest ground support air strike force could we call for.

The air force is a first strike force. After which would be either army or marine corps aviation.

If Marines are on the beach, Marine Avo is already there. They will handle it. If more is needed the Navy will surely have a CV handy to pound the crap out of the enemy

Danger close to the USAF is 40,000 feet, so definitely Marine air.
