starting a conversation can be as simple as u want or it can be difficult. try to relax and focus on simple things. hobbies are good topics to start from. even if u do not have the same interest, u may know more about his/her hobby. try to show that ur interested in it and appreciate their opinions. besides it will give u more information if u want to start another conversation in the future.

Have you introduced yourself yet? Just ask the person anything.
You can ask:
"How are you doing?"
"Oh! Where did you get that (point at item)?"
"It's hot (or cold) today isnt it?"
"How would i start a converstation with a person that i have a crush on?"
etc...

"What kind of music are you into?" You want to start with something basic. Nothing too complex or they will think you are weird. lol
