I'm a single man trapped in a society that demands that you can only be happy if you have a fine young lady on your arm and wishing to become entwined in your pants. Given my own dating history, I just can NOT meet women the way I'd like to (don't think that you're going to reveal to me what my problem is, because you won't. NO ONE has yet). I've come to the conclusion that maybe I'm just not supposed to have any significant other in my life. To that end, I've been focusing on me. However, my friends and family see me not trying to get laid every friday night, and refuse to accept the fact that I'm trying to be happy with my perpetual singlehood. It's not as if NOT trying is any different that what things were like when I WAS trying anyway. Why do they insist that I need a girlfriend if I want to be happy?

It can be very stressful when you have lots of "well meaning" friends and family trying to make you into a happy couple all the time, when you for what ever reason do not feel like it.

You could declare it an off limits conversation, say it upsets you when they bring it up and it makes you feel uncomfortable and you would appreciate it if they do not discuss it unless you bring it up.
Then if they do you can make your excuses and leave - they will soon get the hint.

Then if you ever change your mind about dating - you can do it your self without all your well meaning friends and family scrutinising it.

IF you decide to stear clear of women thats fine too - my uncle is a batchelor and he seems happy. There are lots of ways in this life to be happy - a relationship is one way but it is certainly not the only way.

Good luck,

oh u r such a lucky person 2 b talking with so much sense. oh man hapiness does not lie only in getting married alone. then why r so many married people unhappy. enjoy u'r freedom. there is nothing that equalises it. dont care a damn 4 the society. even if u get married there will b something that the society will talk about u. u have u'r life in u'r hands. live u'r life 4 u'rself. ENJOY U'R LIFE THE WAY U WANT IT.

Just tell them that when The "right one" comes along you will know it. That there is nothing wrong with you and that you want to make sure that you are IN LOVE and not in lust. Trust me WHEN the right one does come along you will know it. You dont want to jump in a lifelong commitment with the wrong woman.

I didnt plan on falling in love, But when it happened my whole body went numb, i had the shakes. Its the most wonderfull feeling that any one person can feel. There are so many people now just jumping into things way to fast and realizing that they made a mistake....then they have divorce to deal with and kids! That would be what i would tell anyone in your position. That i am happy and content just waiting for ms right to come along and make my heart and body alive! Goodluck, Vickie

is the majority of your family in a relatonship ? and is your age where most people marry ? maybe they are concerned your not happy alone and want you to try! my advice don't try its harder that way ,, when you meet someone you'll know if thats the peson for you , if you try you just stress more and who needs that ? relax and let it come to you !

Don't listen to them. You don't need a girlfriend to be happy. If you ask me having a girlfriend is just work. You gotta give up "me" time for "we" time. Not worth it unless you find someone you really, really like.

i dont know why they do that... they're wrong you dont necessarily need a woman to make you happy...

but you should do whatever makes you happy....
you should probably tell them that you'll do things your way and do whatever would make you happy....

be happy!!!
=)
