depend upon the camera and the macro
For digital SLR even 1 cm distance is enough
for ordinary digi atleast 7cm
and do not zoom while taking a macro(closeup)

With my camera i have a special setting for doing close ups - for instance flower heads or blades of grass.
I also have a setting for photos of text.

you camera must have a set/button "close-up", "Macro" or "Macro AF" for closeup shots purpose (2-10 cm). If is a SLR camera you must look/ask for a macro lens.

Look for "close up" or "macro" specs. Some (like several Nikon P&S that I've owned) go as close as 0.4". That's close!

Hi, I recommand you to try google picasa.
picasa is a Google's photo software. It's what should've come with your camera.
It can Edit , organise and Share you picture and small video flips.
It's very easy to use and is free, just like Google
Download it free in here:

Good Luck!
