It depends on how you count the cost.
There have been priceless works of art destroyed. How do you measure their value? Ancient buildings that have come down also come to mind. They cannot be replaced.
The taliban made news several years before the war from destroying many ancient budha statues throughout their country. Some were as big as the mountainside.
Whole cities have been destroyed by natural disaster.
Ancient manuscripts have burned in fires.
Entire civilizations have been wiped out.
All of this is not to even mention that whole species of animals have been hunted to extinction.
But the most expensive thing ever destroyed in the world is probably the original ten commandments tablets that moses threw when he got to the bottom of the mountain.

It all depends on what you value.
To me the most expensive thing destroyed would be life. Life holds a value that cannot or should not hold any monetary value, because it can't ever be replaced. Therefor it is most precious.
However, to some I am sure it is something that can easily be replaced as long a necessary funds are available.
