I was thinking about that the other day when I remembered a Children's Christian song called "Father Abraham,"
You're right. We aren't related to Abraham by genetics. It is about adoption. Jesus did descend from Abraham, and he has adopted all Christians.
As I said before, we owe our very souls to the Jews. They are God's real chosen people/children.

Please remember that Cain and Abel were both children of the same parents. Genetics do not matter as much in the spiritual dimension as it is made out to be. It is indeed the wish of righteous people such as Abraham to see their physical children follow the path of the righteous, and the Lord listens to those who sacrifice for Him. However, it is not always necessary that good people would always have good children or bad folks will always have bad off spring.
The choice between right and wrong is at times hard. Everyone is designed naturally to look at things from their own selfish interests. It takes people of larger vision to grow out of the well of selfishness.
Christians are also children of Abraham and most Muslims are not necessarily children of Abraham either. In fact many of the European Jews may not all have Jewish ancestors. There was a large nation that had converted to Judaism and adopted the Jewish religion in the Caucuses, whose children were certainly not in the lineage of Abraham.
What if a genetically linked person does not understand or depreciates the work of their great grandfather Abraham, while another adopts it? Ultimately physical connection is important but not critical. A person not linked genetically to Abraham can very well be linked to him nevertheless and through him to the Lord Almighty.
That is what I think. May the Lord guide me if I think wrong and keep me firm where my beliefs are correct. Amen.

Actually the early Christians asked the same question. The answer is Romans 8. In particular:
"In other words, it is not the natural children [of Abraham] who are God's children, but it is the children of the promise who are regarded as Abraham's offspring." Romans 8:8 NIV
The Nations of Abraham are not the races but the religions of Judaism, Christianity, Islam, Babi, and Baha'i - whose founders are descended from Abraham, whose teachings fullfill and extend the original convenant with Abraham, and whose followers are the true children of Abraham.
Something I picked up just now - researching another question.

Yes, both the Jews and Arabs are true sons of Abraham. Our Lord, Jesus Christ is a Jew by birth and when He died on a
cross, His words spread and Christianity started and many
Jews became Christians. Thus, Christians are related to
Abraham in this way.

First came Jews. Later on they converted into Christians who later on became Muslims. So technically everyone is related to Abraham as everyone was Jewish. Abraham was the first Prophet sent by God that brought the message with him that there is only one God. This is present in all three holy books of all of these holy religions and it is common in their teachings.

Abraham - the mythical father of Jews, Arabs and Edomites (who later became Jews).
The first Christians were Jewish, all of them, but Christianity spread over many places where the population was not Semite. so Christians are in a way related to Abraham, at least at the beginning of Christianity.

I never heard anyone say that Christians, without Jewish or Arabic lineage, say they are related to Abraham, other than through their belief in God. Christians could be considered the New Israelites, who fell away from and have now begun returning to the truth.

I am not sure how you worked that out.
The jewish arab and christian religions all have common beginnings and originated in the same part of the world. Although many people not from the middle east are now christians, jews and arabs - they are not considered second class followers of their faith.

The relation is not physical. It is ideological and spiritual.
Christians, whether Jewish or Gentile, are actually following Messianic Judaism. Gentiles who accept Jesus as Messiah are accepted as "having the same faith as Abraham", regardless of what familial group they were born into.
God doesn't judge us by our genetics. He looks at the heart.
