In Florida in a child care center:
0-12 mths of age 1 adult to 4 infants
1 year of age 1 adult to 6 toddlers.
2 years of age 1 adult to 11 toddlers.
3-5 years of age is 1 adult to 25 pre-schoolers.
and if you mix the ages the youngest child in the room present is what the ratio will be even if its only 1 infant and 5 toddlers.... you can still only have 4 children in that room wiv the infant... and so on and so on
BUT:
if its not a center and its a in home center the numbers change.. if you want those ratios re ask the question

In Iowa, the state ratio is:
Infants under 18 months: 1 to 4
18 - 30 months: 1 to 5
2-3 year olds: 1 to 7
3-4 year olds: 1 to 8
4-5 year olds: 1 to 12
But NAEYC requirements (which we follow at my center) are:
Infants under 18 months: 1 to 3
18-30 months: 1 to 4
2-3 year olds: 1 to 6
3-4 year olds: 1 to 7
4-5 year olds 1:8

It depends on the laws of your state or province. I live in Ontario and the ratio's here are:
Infants up to 18 months: 1 adult per 3 children to a max of 10 children.
18 to 30 months: 1 per 5 to a max of 15.
There is 2 variations from this point:
30 months to 5 years old: 1 per 8 to a max of 16
5 & 6 year olds: 1 per 12 to a max of 24
6 to 12 years: 1 per 15 to a max of 30
Variation # 2
30 months to 4 years old: 1 per 8 to a max of 24
4 to 6 years: 1 per 10 to a max of 30
6 to 12 years: 1 per 15 to a max of 30

in Scotland the Care Commission sets the level for pre school and ante preschool it is 1 to 7-8 but for children with special needs within mainstream classes a further special support teacher or assistant will be appointed per child depending on the level of need. for children aged 2- 3 the requirement is 1 to 5-6. Your local co-ordinator can be contacted via your local authority and they are an independent body responsible for inspecting pre school institutions and childminders, playgroups etc. All staff must be background checked and hold a certificate to state that

Depends on the children's age. Under 2 years it is 1 member of staff to 3 children. 2 - 3 years it is 1 staff to 4 children. 3 - 4 years it is 1 staff to 8 children.
