Hi Victoria. My wife and I just signed up this weekend for the 3 months for $20 special. In fact, we just started Jenny Craig's plan today.

Yes, you pretty much have to buy Jenny's food. In fact, that's the whole point. If you don't want to buy their prepared food there isn't much reason to go with Jenny Craig. You'd be better off with Weight Watchers or just doing it yourself. If you eat a different meal(s), you are not required to buy more food then you need for the next week.

The wife and I once did Nutrisystems, and the plan works well, except the food was poor. Mostly tasted like they added a lot of proteing powder to their foods. Ugh! We wanted to do the prepackaged food plan again, because that works well for us, since we don't have to cook, other than to add steamed veggies or assemble a salad, etc., but wanted better quality food. Jenny Craig seems to have a better reputation in that area.

The initial membership for both the wife and I, plus each of us getting a full week's worth of their food, was $280. You can figure spending around $120 or so a week for their food. You also must supplement it with other things such as yogurt, cheese, veggies, fruit, salad, etc. You do get to pick out what foods you want, and maybe 1/3rd to 1/2 of the food is vegetarian. You say you are a strict vegetarian. If that means no milk or cheese, then maybe you really need to talk to one of their counselors to see just how well they can accomodate you.

Today, I've had the French Toast for breakfast and Pesto Pizza for lunch, both vegetarian by happenstance. So far I'm pleased with the taste of the food. Like I said, it's only day 1. Most of the foods are frozen, but some not. Make sure you've got room in your freezer.

My mom and aunt tried the J.C. thing and they didn't like it at all.
Plus, they usually charge you more than $20.
