It is a therapy tpically thought of for Borderline Personality Disorders but it basically addresses the sympton of emotional dysregulation so it has broader application than just one diagnosis. It is used to assist people who are impacted by their environment by teaching techniques that put them more in a rational mind. It is a skill set that is taught vs being a therapy where you process a lot. Usually the participant is at a point where they agree they will participate in the thera[y. Another part of the agreement is that usually someone in a therapist/leadership role with the DBT group commits to a bit more accessibility to the client. The commitment is supposed to be that they do not call the therapist in crisis but rather they call when they are anticipating a crisis and the therapist helps them apply the skills they are learning.

Dialectiacl Behavioral Therapy has been designed to help people who suffer from Borderline Personality Disorder, but in some cases, has even helped others that have a different disorder other than BP D.
There is a website called www.behavioraltech.org ---or it could be .com too.
Many BP D's are prone to suicide. DBT gives you the tools to recognize you are going into a crisis, and use the tools and skills you have learned to not get that far. I have been in it twice, this is my second time. I have been in it since last December.
If this has been recommended to you by a doctor, or someone you trust and love, than I would advise you to go for it. It has really helped me. I am still suicidal at times, but now I have skills and the ability to pick up the phone and express my concerns, before I do something I will regret. Good luck to you...
