Throughout history scientists have been condemned and threatened by the church (think gallileo, darwin), is christianity the only religion to do this, or are there others?
Input from people of different religions is appreciated.

Also please give some evidence for your answers (a link perhaps). Also I should have said does the church (rather than christianity) come into conflict with science.

No. Islam is pretty bad about it too. I think they just completely remove science from society, so there is no real conflict, only total ignorance.
Aiw writes:
"The earth is flat. Whoever claims it is round is an atheist deserving of punishment. That is a well-known religious edict, or fatwa, issued two years ago by Sheik Abdel-Aziz Ibn Baaz, the supreme religious authority of Saudi Arabia
Youre seriously uneducated, or a filthy lier for saying this.
"Lord of the two Easts, and Lord of the two Wests.
Which then of the bounties of thy Lord will you deny?"

No, I think we just hear about it more in Europe and the Americas because they were so Christian for the last couple of centuries. I don't think any doctrine describes things like the origion of existance and orentation of the universe. I don't think Muslims like the whole evolution thing much. Buhddists are skeptical by doctrine so maybe not so much them. Hindu's might have issues with science too.
I wonder if in 100 years humans will come across aliens and then maybe none of them will ever heard of Jesus or Mohammed. One would wonder if God just said, well, these people don't need a savior or prophet. Would that mean that they were getting it all right from day one. Would that mean that they would be the chosen ones of god. Or would it mean that it is possible that all this was just an.... Oh I wont go there. Would it even be wierder if the had heard of Jesus and Mohammed or weirder yet just one. But I digress.......

I'll deny them all. Mohammed, if he existed, was insane and i'd kick his as* for being a dirty old pedophile and starting a cult that has retarded the scientific and moral growth of our society.

if the science decides on truth itself .. this question would be easier to answer .... but we usually see that we study one theory for 3-4 years .. then the other one comes up contradicting it .. Darwin theory was rejected and so did the others .. noone is sure about the revolutionary process ..
I am a muslim .. and Islam doesnt conflict with science .. infact there are things mentioned in Quran which the people of that time could not have known due to their limitations in 'techonology'
For evidence i have an ebook which i would be more than glad to send it to u if u want it :) and i have a short documentary on the evolution and Islam if ur interested
P.S :o) :-There was person who visits a scholar .. during their conversation he says "our religion completely agrees with logic" and the scholar relplies .. "you're wrong. Our Logic completely agrees with our religion"
(Sir Syed Ahmed Khan and Maulana Dyoband)

No, all relegions come into conflict. Is Scientology a cult or a religion? hmmm,,,, there may Be something there.
A short story: When Loud-speakers and Public address systems were the "new" thing, Muslim Clerics in Pakistan refused to use it in the Mosque. Saying its the invention of satan, or something to that effect.
But fast forward to today, all mosques use it, all clerics can't sermon without them and infact they are using it soo much that people have started complaining about noise levels and the police have to force the mosque to "turn the volume down".
Just shows that its more of misunderstanding, fear of the new and unknown and resistance to change are more of the factors that pit scientific advancement with religion.

Actually, Christianity doesn't come into conflict with true science. Long before Columbus, the Bible said that the earth was round. (Many so called scientist will go to great extreme to prove a transition to mankind even if means collecting bones found miles apart and piecing them together. The taping of moths to a tree and photographing them for an anthropology text book is another example of the extreme they go through.
Christians research science, but most non Christians have never researched the claims of the Bible.
Some scientist are Christian.

Christianity is the ONLY belief that COINSIDES with science, because God created science; God IS science, and Christianity believes in God.
You just need to study it a little better instead of going off of other people's ignorant statements.
Science is NOT a guess or a whim or an "idea" that one forms in his mind and then tells everyone. Just because they THINK this or that does not make it a science.
Remember that next time you think about evolution or humanism.

Other religions go through the same dilemma too.
Faith vs. Science is a universal issue and cannot be induced to Christianity only.

Most religions are hundreds/thousands of years old. Much of their lore is based on superstition since this was long before the scientific method was developed. There is really no reason to take religions seriously anymore since we have rationale explanations for most of life's mysteries. And those answers are so much more fascinating, eloquent and profound than anything found in any religion.

Christianity does not always come into conflict with science.
In fact many scientists are now Christians as a result of their findings.

i do not want to criticize Christianity, but in Hinduism science is more respected and even worshiped, but still there are some conflicts with science as well in some areas of Hinduism as well.
But generally there a lot of points can be given that Hinduism accepted, some times respected, and even worshiped science and its phenomenas.
