For the past couple months, I've periodically been experiencing numbness in my right hand, predominantly my middle and index fingers. It happens mostly when I'm asleep, regardless of what position I sleep in, and has often caused me to wake up in severe pain. However, it has also happened (to a much lesser degree) while I'm using the computer or driving.
I don't have any history of medical illness, although while in school I did use to get panic attacks that caused a bit of a nervous tremour in the same hand. While I am larger, I don't consider myself obese. However, I did recently put on a bit of weight and my eating habits since May have been irregular.

You need to go see your doctor. While it could be nothing to worry about, it also could be more serious. I had the same problem and it turned out that I have a sensitive nerve in my C6-C7 (when damaged they affect your limbs, most of the time, numbing in your fingers). My neighbor also had the problem and his was more serious, and ended up having to have surgery. (his C6-C7 also) Get it checked out though.

Those symptoms are very typical of carpal tunnel syndrome. Talk to your doctor about it. You may still be able to correct it without surgery (which very severe or neglected CTS often requires).

consult neurologist .
try working less on computers.
as far as your weight is concerned
calculate your body mass index
BMI=weight/ (Height in metre x Height in metre)
If BMI is
below 20 then underweight
21 to 25 then normal
26 to 30 then over weight
31 above then obese.
aslo calculate waist to hip ratio
WHR = waist in cms. / hips in cms.
WHR should not be more than 0.8 for males
and should not be more than 1 in females.
