there is no best art. all of them have their strengths and weaknesses, and not all are suited to every practitioner. I have studied muaythai among other systems for more than 30 y ears and have found that it all comes down to one thing. It is not the art, it is the artist

It is not the best, ther is not one single martial art that is THE best to study, what may work for you won't work for someone else and vice versa, what technique works on one person will not work on another.

Muai Thai has it's advantages, but also has many weaknesses, add on top of that the weaknesses of the individual, and you've got a problem.

it'll just give you the most minimal of basics in kicking, punching, use of the knees and elbows, as well as learning some aspects of using power behind your techniques because it focuses on being devastating with those techniques.

while it's a good starting point for adding another martial art later to compund what you already will learn, it should not be viewed as the best as none of the martial arts should, the more disciplines you learn and get proficient in, the better you'll become.

it's just a good starting point to learn from, and learn another martial art later like a ground fighting or a traditional martial art later to imporve with.

Depending on certain individuals, yes. Depending on others, no!
There is no one supreme art or fighting system out there. Different systems are better suited for different people, based on many factors including (but not limited to) physique, mentality, dedication, and physical ability. However, anything is possible with enough practice too!
For you, muay thai very well could be the best.
Good luck in your training!

With police training, most fights go to the ground since that is the objective: to subdue and hand-cuff. Otherwise, and I have asked this question several times in several forums, where did the statistic of "most fights end up on the ground", or "9 out of 10..." come from. No one has been able to give me a reasonable answer for the three years I have been asking...

Muay Thai is a very good art. As far as it being the best, it is up to the practitioner to give the best of their abilities to make any art the best. I have had training in Tang Soo Do, Hapkito, Wing Chun, Tai Chi, boxing and now what I like doing the best and that is Kung Fu San Soo. San Soo is what I have been looking for, in a versitile art form. It has everything you can imagine.

Not necreassay. It's arguably among the best stand up art along with boxing, kyokushin karate, seido karate, San Shou/San Da, and few others.

However Muay Thai have its own weakness when it come to ground fighting. before you go run around telling people Muay Thai don't work and ground fight is the best style. This isn't necreassay true, some ground fighter plainly suck at get person down and can't deals with strikes while some Muay Thai simply have no common sense or knowledge when it come to basic take down defense.

I agree with everyone else that its hard to pick just one, single "best" martial art. Different ones probably work better in different circumstances.

That being said, I went to Thailand with my gf and got to watch a bunch of Muay Thai fights, and those guys are hard as ****. I sure as hell wouldn't want to fight any Muay Thai practitioners.

there are always dualities in this world; night or day, bad or good, etc...
so..there won't be the best martial arts. it will be a subjective answer not an objective one.
coz it's only in your thoughts nonetheless mix with your likeliness of having one or many martial arts to decide of the question :)
