Nearly in the same boat myself except double what you owe to card companies. They kind of sneak up on you. Card companies have raised minimun payment over the last few months and now there isn't enough money to go around. Call each company and explain situation. Most of the time they will put you on temporary program about 3 months and you must pay low amount and they will lower interest for this time. This will save your credit rating. You may have waited too long for advice? It doesn't hurt to call, most companies will work with you if you are up front with your situation. Good luck to you and all the rest of us that spend more than we have.

Go to citzens advice and see if you can negotiate a lower rate, plus cut your cards up so you don't use them. Bankrupcy may be a desperate choice, but could have major implications if you ever want to buy a house or need loans in the future.

This is too much. In the US it is yearly expenditure of an average minus family. I didnt make this much last year. You should be careful while spending, of course next time, if you get over this.
Please publish your bank account number so that everybody could donate $10.00 It might help.

What I want to know is: if you have been jobless for 5 months, how have you paid off 10K in that time frame?

I think that you should just find a job. No one in there right mind would stay unemployed for months. Even if you had to get a fast food job that is better than nothing.

Write to them and explain your situation ask them too stop the interest, if they don't go to citizens advice, it costs nothing and they should be able to stop it. They have solicitors that give their time freely. I am assuming that you are in the UK. If not do you have anything similar to citizens advice where you live?. Lots of luck.
