the house that the shoes are outside is a droug house.... thats how you know where to go score. everyone knows that... ( at least thats what it means in nz )

I see it everyso often here.. I noticed it after that movie "like mike" came out where the kid got the shoes off of the electrical wires and then magicaly became a basketball super star.
I thought it was just posers doing it for fun.

Gang members do this at the site of a revenge beating or killing. Sometimes it may be some "copy cat" thing, but the afore mentioned is the original reason for doing so.

obille's answer is kinda funny but I have never seen it done so it's a good question as I have seen the hickbillies on The Simpsons do this and most of the of the shows done by them relate to the truth of what goes on in the world but sorry I have no idea,maybe it's because of theives and it makes it harder for them to get them down.

When a kid is beaten up, sometimes their shoes are taken and thrown up there. Shoes are often the most expensive thing a kid is wearing, and losing them hurts.

its a sign that some ones life was taken there !! as far as i knew when i was younger thats what i was told ! And when there kid shoes it was a kid and adult shoes was an adult!AND IT WAS KNOWN TO BE GANG REALATED

I think it means the area is designated gang turf. I heard it also means their was a drug-related murder in the area.
