Take him to the doctor for tests. He could be having a hearing problem or maybe he is Autistic. He could also have a vision problem.
My son who is 40 now showed these signs when he was about 1 and was diagnosed as being retarded with autistic traits and in need of glasses. There was no hearing problem, but autism can appear that there is a problem with hearing.
Have complete testing done at a children's hospital. It may take 3 days to do all the testing. All you need is a referral from the child's doctor to the testing hospital.
Whatever, you do keep him away from a shrink if it is autism. They have not been well trained in autism. Be very careful of what drugs they may put him on. Be sure to ask about side effects of the medications if they do. Some can cause them to look like they have Parkinson disease later in life.
Good Luck.

Take him to the doctor. There are some definate issues there that I won't even hazard a guess at. If the first doc ignores your concerns, go to another and another. Get his hearing checked and his eyes checked.

Before you go think about when this started. Recently? Was there an injury or illness before? Diet change? Shots?

IT IS NOT NORMAL.

Hugs!

I had a neighbour who's 4 year old boy acted quite similarly to this(and he's fine, just needs extra attention). I would recommend a visit to the doctor, to check hearing and the other problems. ( If he's having a hard time hearing you, he's probably getting really frustrated)

This may be a form of OCD which is common in children as well as adults. It's not too difficult to live with, I believe 95% of the population as some degree of it. Growing up I had it bad. I would have to repeat words, sentences, count my steps, blinks, you name it.

But this seems a little bit more extreme due to the fact that he doesn't seem to awknowledge you. My mother worked with kids with autism and they had behaviour patterns similar to that of your child.

If you believe your child has autism, I would suggest you see a psychiatrist and doctor asap.

Does he always have trouble hearing, if so he may need to have his ear canal cleaned out, or he may have a mild to severe hearing problem.

Best of luck to you and your child!

Have you ever had his hearing checked? Maybe he isn't hearing you, as you suspect. As for throwing tantrums, well... some kids do and some don't. Mine never did but that's because I won't put up with it. At the beginning of the very first one, I put them in their room to have it. After trying that one or two times, they realized it wouldn't yield results and stopped.

It's VERY normal for 5 year olds (especially boys) to have ticks, like rapid eye squinting. Definitely get him to your family doctor for a check-up and referral to a specialist though. Maybe he can't hear you well, maybe it's a ploy for attention, and maybe it's something more serious. No doctors here though.

Sounds like you need to take him to see a Doctor, don't rely on one opinion either. If what they do isnt working keep seeking right answer.
