Questions about my first absinthe experience?

I just received a bottle of Lemercier 72 Amer. I'm not expecting to trip, but I have read all the viewpoints and would like to know, Can I expect anything different from this supposedly strong absinthe, or am I in for nothing but a good drunk?

In general a good drunk. 'Secondary effects' from absinthe are very hard to pin down. It effects different people differently and even different brands have different effects for some. I've found absinthe gives me an aware drunk. After a night of absinthe, drinking other liquor gives a heavy, downer feeling compared to absinthe.

To correct another answer there is no "marijuana" like reaction in absinthe. In the past it was mistakenly connected to THC but that has since been shot down, although that doesn't stop old text files from floating around (and people believing them). Absinthe today is about the same as it was 100 years ago. Most of the effects reported then were from bad studies diagnosing other diseases as absinthe consumptions, alcoholism (as we know large amounts of alcohol and withdrawals can cause hallucinations) and propaganda.

You will want to drink it with cold water. Many people look down on lighting the absinthe on fire, not only is it dangerous but it effects the flavor.

Lem 72 amer is pretty good, although a little bit more bitter than most.

Pretty much just a good drink.
Remember that even though wormwood is can cause a "marijuana" like reaction in absinthe, it would have to be in quite a high amount in order to effect the modern body the way it did 100 years ago. Or you'd have to drink so much of it to get that way, that you couldn't feel it through the drunkness anyway.

You'd probably get a better high off of nyquil truthfully.But everyone is different, so good luck! Absinthe is lots of fun with a group. Have you tried drinking it both ways? (with the cold water drip over a sugar cube/pour the absinthe over the sugar cube then light it on fire) I find the latter to be more fun with a group, but dangerous once everyone gets sloshed, so be careful if you do it that way.

Oh, and if you don't have an absinthe spoon, just use a fork propped over the glass---works in a pinch!

While you're not goint to trip, most people whom I've drunk absinthe with described it as the "best drunk" they've ever had.

Couldn't quantify that for ya, but tear into it, have fun, and report back on your findings.
