Well...annoying but true...my hairstylist used to be my mother-in-law. I decided to cut my hair myself, as I can actually get it more even than her and I never went to school for it.

She would always suggest colors for me she knew I hated, she would never do what I asked when it came to color. I asked for black and she mixed black and brown because she said she didn't want my husband, her son, to be upset with the color. I thought it was my hair...? Haha...

She always told me and other clients when she had a stomach-bug. Oh yes, like we really want to know that! Please...vomit in my food too!

She was not a good cutter. One time a lady came in and she said she liked the previous cut but asked if she could make it even this time.

She always brags about what she can do, even though I know her skills, they're not that great. (cooking, sewing, etc.)

If she read something and it was something she never knew before, she would proceed to tell people and act like she knew whatever it was all along and other people didn't.

Basically...way too arrogant and snobby. And I don't think she knows her colors very well... (even if she wasn't my mother-in-law I'd still feel the same.)

I am a Managing Cosmetologist and I would have to say the most annoying thing that a stylist can do, is not listen to your client and just doing what you want. Another would be, having personal conversations with employees in the salon, while working on a client.

Shuffling clients too much that they forget about the other and totally make them wait for hours! This happens all the time and I just wish salon people wouldn't treat us like a product in an assembly line and make sure that the haircutting experience would be a smooth and relaxing one. There was a time when I got highlights and had a hard time taking out the color from my scalp as it had all dried out when they took a super long time from grabbing me from that big dome heater dryer whatever it is. That was bad.

My hairdresser is a man and I hate it when all he does is talk about sports with his brother (they share a shop) and leave me completely out of the conversation. I like to be included in conversations because it makes the time go by faster. I also hate it when the water gets too cold or really hot when shampooing. I know he can't always control the temperature but I hope he keeps trying or at least acknowledges that he noticed the water temp changed and apologize. I also don't like when the back of my head hurts after a shampoo because the sink is sooo hard. He usually puts a towel down on the sink so it's not so hard but sometimes he has forgotten too. I hope this helps you!

Gets aggravated when the customers wants an area recut.,doesnt repeat the cut back so that the customer sees that there on the same idea, leaves the customer under the dryer for to long with chemicals in there hair.Cuts down other hairdressers that they are working with.Trys to sell everything to customers.Uses the clippers on the top of the head out of lazyness when it was long enough for the fingers .Cleans up around a mans neck line way to high.Acts snobbish these are things that I have seen.Number one scrunching the **** out of a weak perm so that the customer wont notice untill there home.I had a co worker that did that with perms

try to pressure a client into getting a certain hair style. Not listening to what the client wants.

properly, I think of a individual who says "i'm a Bible-believing Christian" isn't conscious that 40 authors with 40 political agendas defined God in approximately 40 distinctive techniques. and probable that individual isn't attentive to over 4 hundred contradictions in the Bible. I've been a stylist for 15 years. You'll quickly learn to read people. Some will want to chat, some will want to relax and be quiet. Some will want to know all your life stories, others will want to talk about themselves. Always listen and be honest. Do a good consult first, get a good idea of what they want and don't want. And you will get some who have no clue what they want!! You will have some you can always make happy, and some that are never happy. Learn all you can, take extra classes, and have fun. Learn to let it go when someone isn't happy.

You know, just because you asked that question, I think you are going to be great. The key is listen to what your clients want done to their hair and genuinely try to please them. Just talk to them to really see what they want and then do the best you can. I had a lady that used to cut my hair and she truly tried to do what I wanted or thought I wanted (I wasn't demanding) She did well, offered suggestions when I asked, and she was tipped well. Sounds as though you are just getting started, but take your time, and like I said before about your question, I think you are going to be great!!

I've been to countless hair stylists who don't listen to me. Or they do listen to me and just do what they think looks better and I hate my hair. I've cried after leaving some beauty shops! If you don't know what they want or aren't sure, tell them! They would rather repeat themself and explain then go cry in the car.

Also talking with other co-workers is kind of annoying unless you include the client.
