the first thing you should consider and find out is what type of ram you have! is it SDRam or DDR, coz you can't mix both (technically impossible because of their pins)... then it is of best practice to add ram which is of the same size and speed as what you have now (example: if you're using 256MB / 333Mhz, then get another one just like it).. using different sizes and speed in two RAMs MAY damage/degrade one of the RAMs, rendering your system to be unstable (since one of them, is coping up with the other)
to manually install it into the motherboard, check your motherbard documentation (online or book manual) to check if what it can support. after all observations, just plug in the CORRECT RAM into the SLOT at ease. (installing the hardware is easy, it's the research and additional info that can cost you time)... a stable system is better than a fast but crashing one.

Here are your steps:

1. Identify what Motherboard you have.

Search the Internet on your specific Make and model of your motherboard, so you know what type of RAM and the Maximum amount and the number of SLOTS it supports.

2. Installing the RAM

Once you have purchased the RAM; You will attempt to install the RAM. Make sure your PC has been shutdown and disconnected from the Power Socket.

Open up the PC and notice the RAM Slots. Simply place in the new RAM on the next in line free Slot.

Note: The RAM is very sensitive to touch, because of static electricity you could damage the RAM.

Pls be advised to "Hold RAM Stick at the Ends only".
Same way when you insert the new RAM on the Motherboard.

First of all check what type of RAM and how much RAM is supported by your computer. Then open the System unit and check if there is any available slot for the additional RAM. If there are additional slots available, buy the supported RAM and install that. If there are no additional slots available, you need to replace the lower capacity RAM with higher ones.

we can add more than one ram to a computer we can also increase the speed of the ram based ont he requiremnet of the customer.
to insert a ram we should buy a ram based on the requirement that is the speed differs example 256mb ram , 512 ram ...etc so take the ram and fix it in the mother board where the space allocated for the ram more than one ram can be attached to a system

Turn off everything on your computer. Make sure to try and keep one hand on your computer case metal for ground. Unplug power to everything that goes to your compter. Open the computer case, then locate your memory sticks on the mother board "the largest board in your computer". On each side of the memory stick there will be a release that you use to remove the memory stick. Pay attention to the direction the current memory sticks are placed to help figure out which way the new one or one's go in. Make sure you didn't knock any cables or wires loose and put the case cover back on. Plug your main computer in and turn on the monitor and look for the memeory to be foud during the boot up process. If it does not find your new memory open the case back up and make sure the memory are correctly in the sockets and if they are swap the memory sticks and see if that corrects the problem.

You CAN have RAM sticks of different sizes, but you must put the bigger one in the first slot. This usually means you take the original one out and put the ne wone in its place and then put the old one in the next slot.
