Pinch your nostrils together, and hold pressure for 10-15 minutes. Lean forward, not backwards, so blood doesn't run down the back of your throat. It might help to apply ice to your nose, in addition to the pressure. If the bleeding doesn't stop within 30 minutes, go get checked out at the ER.

cold compress to the area, hold your head back to get it to slow down, might take a few hours depending on the cause, but NO HEAT, will make it worse
get an ice pak or a frozen water bottle and hold it to your nose while holding ur head back is best way.. broke my nose once, went to the ER, x rays all that crap.. only to tell me nothing they could do for it.

DO NOT lean back. It will cause the blood to run down your throat. I knew a girl who almost choked.
Pinch the base of your nose. Just below the section between your eyes. Pinch this hard and lean forward. The main blood vessels are found in this area. Stifle bloodflow and you'll stop the nosebleed. Hold this for a minute or two, or until the nosebleed stops.
After your nose stops bleeding, apply a washcloth containing ice cubes (Preferrably crushed up), or a bag of frozen peas/corn works exceptionally well.
Good luck. ^_^

Pinch the bridge of your nose and keep your head forward so that you don't swallow the blood. My son gets them a lot- dry weather causes him to have them.

Stick tissues up your nose and then take a rolled up piece of tissue and stick it under your top lip and then go lay down.
