I have seen other people get pulled over at the same yellow light. What should I do? The cop gave me a ticket and I don't think I should have to pay for something I didn't do.

If you can without a doubt verify that you were in the 60 when that reading of 53 was taken then you can easily fight that by showing up on the given court date with details. The location where the speed was recorded should be on your ticket. Find it and see if the speed limit there is still 60. If so you may need pictures but you should be able to fight it. It could be he got your speed in an earlier place and just caught up to you in the faster area.

Hmm. Was it really a "speeding ticket" or was it for "improper use of a traffic device" i.e. green means go, yellow means go like hell, and red means three more can get thru? I ask because you mentioned the "yellow light". It actually means "clear the intersection." IF the speed limit was in fact 60 (I don't know of anywhere where there's traffic lights that it is 60) and you were justified in your actions re: the yellow light (could you have sped up to squeeze thru before it turned red?) and you were under the speed limit, I would do the following:
Take pictures (video is better) to show the posted speed limit sign where you were alleged to have been speeding. Then take it to court and show the judge when you plead innocent. If the judge will not look at the evidence, sorry my friend. You will probably need a lawyer.

Contest the ticket in court. However make sure that you go back to check what the speed limit sign said BEFORE you got pulled over because you just said you were in the 45...some places increase the speed after a light and maybe what you read was what the speed increases to after the light.

Are you sure you weren't in a construction zone, because if you were that would over ride the normal black & white speed limit sign.

If you were not in a construction zone, then I would suggest taking photographs to prove your case, then just go to court and fight the ticket.

When you take the photographs don't just take a closeup of the speed limit sign, because that could be a picture of a sign from anywhere. Instead, try and take a picture that includes the sign and any other landmarks that would help identify the location, such as street signs. It may be necessary to take more than one picture to get your point across and make sure you have good quality prints, so don't take the pictures with your cell phone and expect to show them to the judge on your phone.

Definitely take it to court. Get pictures of the speed limit sign that proves that the limit was 60. Better yet, get a video tape starting at the speed limit sign and then driving all the way to the intersection where you were pulled over (make sure to get a good shot of the street names sign). There's no way to dispute that and you'll be let off.

You could try to appeal it, but you might just end up wasting a lot of time in the process.

Since the ticket is only 8 mph over the speed limit, defensive driving should be an option for you- take it and you won't have to pay for the ticket

good luck!

Tell your side to the judge with proper documentation such as photo's, you might beat the cite. Who know's. All they can tell you is no and make you pay a fine. They can't take away your birthday or anything like that. My only question is did you speed up to try and beat the light? If you did, you may have a harder time beating the cite. Also, go to your city hall and ask for the speed zone maps, they should be available for you to see, at least they are in my area.

You can always go to the hearing instead of paying the ticket. Make sure you take pictures of the speed limit signs and mark them on a diagram of speed zones. The judge may want to confirm these but if you are correct they you should be fine.

Request a hearing; plead not guilty & appear in traffic copurt to contest the charge. How are you going to prove to the court the speed limit was 60? Do you have photos of a speed limit sign showing where it was taken in relation to where the officer says you were speeding?
