Most dictionaries include etymological information (how the word was formed and developed over the years), these usually include root words, though of course they're not always latin, english draws on Germanic root words as well, (Greek too!).

There are also lots of good books on etymology out there, I know you can find a number of them in the Reference / Dictionary section of Barnes and Noble, as well as other bookstores i'd bet (I just happen to work for B&N so i know that for a fact).

In my sources i've listed a few places to get started, I reccomend the Oxford English Dictionary for a dictionary in book form.
