I have pulled stomach and back muscles from coughing. It hurts really, really bad.......The doctor told me to take Motrin because it is a muscle that is hurt and that Motrin helps the pain the best.
I am taking 400 mg. 3 x daily for a week. This is the bad news, depending on how serious you are injured it can take up to 6 weeks to heal. It hurts me to breathe or bend over.
It is difficult to tell if that is really your ailment because it doesn't show up on any test.
It probably hurts every time you turn, bend or breathe.

I saw the answer about adding heat and cold to the injury. I would not do that without a doctor telling me to. Some times you can make it worse with heat and or cold.........Other than that, it is a good answer.

when it hurts to laugh, breathe deeply and sit/stand up or basically move much, and you feel a pain in your stomach everytime you do one of those things ... that's a pulled muscle. it's not so much a really sharp pain, but a big dull pain that will cease when you stop doing whatever it is (laughing, etc) and doesn't take long to fade. It'll heal in a few days, unless it's seriously pulled it'll take longer. try a heating pad and icing it and stuff to help the pain go away.
