If it is not restarting normally, simply by using any restart method, then you may have a problem that needs to be looked into. However during boot, if you press " f8 " , you will go to the black and white text only screen. You only have a short period of time, if you do not select something, so hit your down arrow once to give your self time to look at the screen and find the boot method that you want to use. Note: depending on your operating system, this will be either a dos or dos type screen and you will not have your mouse available to you. All commands must use the keyboard.

hit F8 after you restart just before the windows boot logo comes up and select normal boot. Allow time for the system to POST before you start mashing F8 though.
