I have had many jeeps with various size engines the 4.0 is the best engine they ever used I had over 246ooo on it befroe selling and it is still running strong today have seen 4.0 motors go 400000+ stay on top of maintainance keep oil and coolant levels up and drive it like you stole it these are awsome engines can not say that enough very dependable tons of torque easy to work on when you need to (rarely) If you want to get rid of it let me know looking for NEW 4x4 yours isnt even broke in yet

My '99 TJ 4.0L is my daily driver. It currently has 149,800 miles on it, stock engine, stock clutch. Oil changed usually every 3,000 miles (though has gone as long as 6,000 a couple of times). I'm using full synthetic oil and have for a while.

I replaced plugs and wires a couple of times, but aside from that, it runs great. Mostly highway miles, some offroad miles.

my 1992 JEEP Cherokee 4.0L I6 lasted 242,000 before it needed any engine work and that was the previous owners fault (little hole in the engine block) could have been fixed but i was getting a new Jeep anyways so it was no big deal we just traded it in. i would recomend a Jeep to anyone they are the BEST!!

That is a hard question. If you take care of it, respect the rpms and avoid cold acceleration, it should last a long time. This is like walking up to your doctor and asking how many more years you will live.

The engine is strong, durable, and darn near bulletproof.
I have an '88 Cherokee with 150K miles and it still drives well.
Oil, filters and cooling system need to be maintained and it will deliver 200K miles without difficulty.

Check this link and you will be impressed with the number of owners with more than 300K miles. (minimum is 200K.)

i have a 96 gc laredo with the 4.0L Straight 6 that has over 216,000 hard miles on it with no engine trouble at all. as long as you take care of it and maintain the engine it should last at least that long

jeeps 4.0 lasts for ever especially when taken care of. my bros jeep had 150,000+ and its still runnin strong those things dont know how to die. my buddy used to have a jeep and he never changed the oil in it he only put more in and the damn thing still lasted till it finally gave up cuz it had big chunky oil in it.

with proper maintenance several customers have put over 300,000 miles and still going. while these are no garage queens and have been off-road many times, they are not abused on or off road. they have spent the money well as several have avoided showrooms for over 15 yrs. as always maintenance is the key.
