Seasonal Affective disorder, my sister has this and is looking for ways to cope with this instead of medications and although light therapy is an option it is very expensive to go to a mental health care provider and get this. Any ideas??

A good night’s sleep and days filled with bright, natural light are essential to maintaining alertness and a positive attitude… especially during the fall and winter months especially those who have SAD. The best is to be able to sit in the early morning sunlight for 30 minutes to an hour a day and let it sink into your third eye area. If the weather does not permit it, then, they now have lamps you can buy which imitate the sun.

There is also a vitamin therapy. Contact me and I will give it to you.

Some chiropractors now have light therapy which is cheaper than psychiatrist. They can do some spinal adjustments that help also.

Leave all the windows open and the lights on. Although this is not a fix, it will help if she is not in darkened areas allot. Also, flourescent lighting may help and its cheap, simply because its indirect and its BRIGHT. Good luck!

Also call your local County Guidance and Health Center if you have one, they are usually based on salary and cheap and ask if they have a "visiting" psychiatrist program. If they do they come by once a month, and sometimes have "samples" of medication that they are able to give away.

There are light boxes that you can build yourself.
If she can possably get out side for just 15 min evey a day this will help.
I know this sounds unconventional but tanning booths (beds) work but they can,t be reccomened because of the cancer scare.--Told to me by a phsyciatrist.
Open up the blinds and allow sunlight and fill your home with bright light bulbs--Floressent-High watage and where ever she is turn them on. Get her out of the house as much as possible.
