I have an old home. Built in 1924. There are areas once in awhile where the paint gets nicked and we are finding all dark, dreary colors. Gray, dark brown, dark gray- blue, black are the colors we have found.

Our home was built in 1929 and we are remodeling it. The base layer of paint (over the plaster) was a very sick looking light muddy green, much uglier than avocado. Over that they put another layer of a darker muddy green, even uglier than the prior color.

The bathroom was painted a muddy brown color - hideous. Over that went a thick layer of dark peach.

We also found ugly salmon pink wallpaper with blue schooner ships in one of the bedrooms. On top of that they had put another layer of wallpaper of an english fox hunt with the horses, guns, dogs, etc. - very dark green background with browns.

I can't recommend any of these colors - they are extremely dark and dreary and UGLY. Take some tours of model homes in your area - they are using darker paints now, but they are pleasant looking and soft. That's where we got the color ideas for our home. Good luck!

Hi you know--ebay--basically anything w/ an "earthy" tone.

Dark greens, reds & the historic color collection from some of the larger paint companies: Benjamin Moore & Can Tire. all of those places would have a historic paint list.

I believe the colors were off-white,light beige, slate gray for the living room area. Bright colors were popular for the kitchens back then, such as yellow or coral.

Greens were in! I would try looking up your local historical society they should have a list of paint colors and paints for this period. Most major paint companies carry historical paints so you could probably go in to your local paint store and ask one of their paint experts.
