I am saying that redneck is such a bad way to describe a white person that if you were so mad and had to call me something I would prefer a slur to a word that is so wrong for the occasion. I dont like slurs and I will not use any.

I'd maybe agree if you're saying that the rednecks are racist. I'm not and wouldn't want to be classified as a redneck for that very reason.

Well personally,I don't like any kind of racial slurs or stereotypical names given to races or classes of people. I would just call a white person Caucasian because that is what they are,not a redneck or a hillbilly. Every culture is beautiful to me.

actually according to wikipedia;
Redneck, in modern usage, predominantly refers to a particular stereotype of individuals living in Appalachia, the Southern United States, the Ozarks, and later the Rocky Mountain States and the Central Valley of California. The word can be used either as a pejorative or as a matter of pride, depending on context.

Usage of the term redneck generally differs from hick and hillbilly, because rednecks reject or resist assimilation into the dominant culture, while hicks and hillbillies theoretically are isolated from the dominant culture. In this way, the term redneck is similar to the word cracker.

Actually you are wrong on the meaning of redneck...people who work outdoors, like farmers, were called rednecks because they had rednecks from sunburn. These people were able to be picked out by snobby whites who felt that laboring in the outdoors was beneath them. The term came to mean uncooth hillbilly and the like because that is what others associated with people who worked outdoors. It's a stereotype in and of itself

Redneck is a racial slur usually used to refer to hillbillies, not whites as a whole. The current racial slur used towards whites is what you find in a saltine box.

All sorts of "ethnic" people have slurred at me: Cracker, Mayogirl, Honkey, Vanilla, Sugar Cube, Scandinavian Porch Monkey, and other equally embarassing things. I wish it could have been as mild as Redneck. I could have dealt with Redneck.

i agree with you. . redneck is just a derogatory term that a lot of people use and do not know what it really means. no one deserves to be called any racial slur black/white or otherwise.

To 'I luv music'-Do you realize that when you say "I could care LESS",you are actually sayin' the opposite of what you mean? I even heard Kerry,the man I voted for for president,say it that way! Even the Hillbilly song, " I COULDN'T care less,got it right! And,what gets me is that the people that say it always think they are so damned cool!!! So,when you say "I could care less",you are actually sayin' you care more than you could!

Redneck refers to someone who works outside for a living as in farmers, construction workers....

You know, the jobs Americans won't do.

Who do you think is losing those jobs when illegals do them and why wouldn't they be upset?
