I used to work a late shift and get to the bars around that time.
By that time of night, the guys the women are interested in have already paired off, the single guys left are fairly drunk and already hit on everyone, and been turned down. No woman wants to be seen getting picked up by someone that was turned down by all the other women.
You getting lucky mainly on your timing. I used it to my advantage too.
