This evening I was looking thru my add/remove programs and saw this installed on my computer.

I don't recall ever seeing it there before.

What is it and should I remove it?

Speech synthesis is a wonderful resource which can help language learners know what the text on their screen should sound like. Its part of Microsoft, you could take it out if you don't think you need it

It's just a text-to-speech engine. If you don't want your computer to talk to you, then it isn't needed. However, you and your computer can have some interesting conversations.

Again, the TTS is really only useful for allowing your computer to speak to you.
