I've had surgery & the doc really screwed me up. I have a metal plate w/4 screws but the doc used the wrong screws and put them in the wrong place. I also have the disc above the one he did surgery on that is also bulgging I am in chronic pain everyday all day. I can't even sit down I am only some what ok laying on my stomach. I've taken Lortabs & injections but that doesn't even touch the tip of my pain. Does anyone out there know what might work better than the lortabs. You'd think the docs would know but they're of no help.

Hello Angel,
I saw this & knew i had to try to help in some way. I have had 3 spinal operations due to "spina bifida" & "tethered cord"during surgeries, my spinal cord became injured. It happens. Drs. can only do so much, with what they have to work with. I was in terrible pain. Surgery 1 was a success. I felt good. Surgery 2 i came out, with more pain, but my spinal cord needed to be released. surgery 3, by then, so many nerves were injured, that i was in crucial, suicidal, pain. I have been on every narcotic, from oxy, to morphine, & spent a month in Johns Hopkins Pain Clinic.I also had a stimulator implant in my stomach, & i have been thru it all. Find a pain DR. ASAP.
I couldn't function any longer, & just began to give up, knowing i couldn't live in this much pain. Now, for the turn of events, in learning how to cope with "Chronic Pain!" I found a Dr. who specializes in Chronic Pain." That is his expertise. With his guidence, & a plan of narcotics (unfortunnately, i need them) i have found a way to live with this. Some days good, some not so good, but overall, it's better. It will never leave me. My coping skills are so important. Focusing on your breathing in a quiet room, & guided imagery is a big help, mentally. The more upset & stressed you are, the more pain you will be in. If you combine the right techniques for yourself with the DRS. help, & take the proper meds, it will help you, greatly. I am also taking, morphine (looks like a lollypop) & Gabitril, for swelling inside, & calming myself down. This was my course of action, & a pain Dr. will find yours! The pain is real, too real, & i have been in it since 1982.
More & more they are finding help for pain sufferers. Keep yourself informed! Please, set up a course of action, so that you may feel better. My pain is forever, but my coping skills, & the meds, keep me here. It works for me. Make a plan. It truly changes the way you think. I want to live, love, & laugh, & now, even though it is still there, i have learned to handle it, so much better. Here is my e-mail, if i can help, please, contact me. Sorry for this long answer, but it's filled with such helpful, info.
Feel better, live, love & laugh.( you can)

I am so sorry to hear about your situation. I had back surgery (L4) section of my lower back in 2002. I had the surgery at Standford thinking I was in good hands and that the chronic back pain would be resolved. I haven't fully recovered. I am currently dealing with major lower back pain and I am not sure if anyone can actually help me. I had a recent MRI and it shows that I have moderate to severe degenerative disease. Hope you have better luck with your pain. Let me know if you find a cure.

You really need another opinion!! There are so many new treatments now, and specialized "Pain Clinics" popping up all the time. My hubby had a degenerative disc, had all those injections, pain pills and muscle relaxers, all with no relief. He even had to start to walk wth a cane. Saw a different Dr., and had surgery, after a year of suffering...Within two hours of getting out of surgery, was up and walking without the cane! Now, he still has some pain, but nowhere near what it was. Was well worth the time of getting another opinion!

First I would find a new doctor to get the surgery corrected, thenI would contact a Lawyer to sue the hell out of the first Doctor. As for the pain, there is Morphine pills and patches out there or Oxy 80mgs that work really well, I have 2 disk that are bulging so I kinda feel your pain...Good Luck with it

I have only limited experience with cases like this one, but I know one man in our church who had 5 back surgeries with 3 fused discs and no relief who got much better by drinking 2 ounces of monavie juice twice a day for 3 weeks.

The surgeon does not want to admit that he made you worse. Go back to the neurologist or doctor that sent you for surgery, and ask for a referral to a pain management specialist. They are usually Anesthesiologists who prefer their patients unconcious, so they are usually personality deficient, but they can generally come up with a coctail of medications to blunt your pain and get you back into your life.

If the pain is derived from inflamation, pure painkillers may not do the job. I have anywhere from 3 to 9 bulging discs (for over 10 years) & stuff like Percocet does nothing - an over the counter NSAID anti-inflamatory does the job for me.

But in your condition, you need expert opinion.
