One of the best ways for the general public to do online research is through Google Scholar: http://scholar.google.com

If you are connected with a university, you usually have access to online research databases which will give you access to full text articles.

You might also try Scirus for your search: http://www.scirus.com/srsapp/aboutus/

Also Intute: http://www.intute.ac.uk/healthandlifesciences/about.html

This site might be of some help: http://bubl.ac.uk/LINK/f/folklore.htm
