It is not that I am not aware of this disease or how it is transmitted It seems that we are still in the 80's in the thinking on how it is transmitted and yes I have lost friend to this disease But it seems People today do not have a CLUE on how HIV is tranmitted like can I get it from A toilet seat or from headphones Mythes and poor information is more of the problem than any thing out there!!!

Probably better paranoid than dead. It is so sad to see that the number of really young people that are getting this virus going up. Heard of a positive 20 year old with a new baby - and that is just too sad. Can't even imagine how the people of Africa are dealing with this. that's even sadder.

I don't think people are paranoid about getting it through the air, but that maybe the person they are sleeping with or the person who they stopped to help in an auto accident who is bleeding may be carrying the disease. And why wouldn't they be scared? Its a disease in which there is currently no cure only treatments. I personally don't live a high risk life so I'm not worried but I can see why people who do live such lives would or should be!! I think awareness should be made about HIV/AIDS to help end this disease!
Wouldn't you rather be safe than sorry?!?!

It is hard for people to get their facts straight when there are so many different answers to questions about the disease. Some people say after 6 months testing negative you are ok, some say 1 year, some say 2 years and on and on. It is ridiculous. I don't know why people enjoy scaring others that way.

Sexual route. The majority of HIV infections are acquired through unprotected sexual relations. Sexual transmission can occur when infected sexual secretions of one partner come into contact with the rectal, genital or oral mucous membranes of another.
Blood or blood product route. This transmission route can account for infections in intravenous drug users, hemophiliacs and recipients of blood transfusions (though most transfusions are checked for HIV in the developed world) and blood products. It is also of concern for persons receiving medical care in regions where there is prevalent substandard hygiene in the use of injection equipment, such as the reuse of needles in Third World countries. Health care workers such as nurses, laboratory workers, and doctors, have also been infected, although this occurs more rarely. People who give and receive tattoos, piercings and scarification procedures can also be at risk of infection.
Mother-to-child transmission (MTCT). The transmission of the virus from the mother to the child can occur in utero during the last weeks of pregnancy and at childbirth. In the absence of treatment, the transmission rate between the mother and child is 25%.[24] However, where drug treatment and Cesarian section are available, this can be reduced to 1%.[24] Breast feeding also presents a risk of infection for the baby.
HIV-2 is transmitted much less frequently by the MTCT and sexual route than HIV-1.
HIV has been found at low concentrations in the saliva, tears and urine of infected individuals, but the risk of transmission by these secretions is negligible. The use of physical barriers such as the latex condom is widely advocated to reduce the sexual transmission of HIV. Current research is clarifying the relationship between male circumcision and HIV in differing social and cultural contexts.[30] Even though male circumcision may lead to a reduction of infection risk in heterosexual men by up to 60%,[31] UNAIDS believes that it is premature to recommend male circumcision as part of HIV prevention programs.[32] South African medical experts are concerned that the repeated use of unsterilized blades in the ritual circumcision of adolescent boys may be spreading HIV.[33]

You seem to take a rather care free attitude about one of the worst diseases in the world? Considering ther are several million with it, and it kills you. I don't think I would be playing with it. The only reason to ask this question is because you have a issue. You or somebody you know has it? Hey, too bad. But don't try to make it seem like its the damn chicken pox........
