There is not really any set amount of lengths to do when swimming to keep fit, its just a good way to keep fit all together. i recommend you swim on time Rather the lengths do about an hour if your going once a week and maybe add a little more time every couple weeks to build it up hope this helps xx

For a once a week swim? Don't get too ambitious or you will wind up with shoulder problems. If you could do it twice a week, then 50 laps would be good cross training. If you can only do it once a week, 50 lengths is plenty. After every 10 lengths of freestyle, throw in a length of backstroke just to keep your shoulders happy.

hhmm...maybe 2-3 laps form a larg swimming pool and go up to 4-6 if you wanna be fit...do freestyle, backstroke and the butterfly...if u dont know what these swimming styles are, just ask and ill answer...practice diving too! helps the upper body...

Depends on the size of the pool. 10-20 laps in a 25 meter pool, twice a week, would be excellent exercise

I would just start swimming until you get tired. You will notice that each time, you will probably be able to push yourself a little farther. If you just keep the same routine, you won't increase your stamina, you will just stay at a constant level..... Unless, of course, that's what you want!
