i foster bottle-fed orphan kittens for a no-kill shelter. i don't have a lot of experience, but i have raised one litter (from 10 days old), and another single kitten from 3 weeks. so here is my problem.

i have a kitten that is three and a half weeks old. he was left on a doorstep by a feral mom who got scared off (that's the story i got). he eats quite well from the bottle. in fact, he weighed a pound at three weeks. but he fusses all the time. i have had him since he was nine days old, and he has always been like this. he sleeps well in his rubbermaid tub with his stuffed animals and heating pad. but from the moment he is picked up, until he is put down again, he cries. except for when the bottle is in his mouth. he has been checked by a vet within the last few days, and they said he is healthy. i have tried everything i can think of. i burp him, keep him warm, wrap him in blankets, don't wrap him in blankets, snuggle him. he just doesn't seem happy.

He isnt used to the feel of touch. Hold him as much as you can, ignore the cries. Give him skin to skin contact, just as you would with a human baby for the first few months of life. While you are laying down watching TV, wear a button down shirt and unbutton it about a third of the way. Put the little one on your chest and talk softly to him. Be sure to have a calm state of mind because animals, just like baby humans, can pick up on your emotions.

no longer all cats are fussy....I have 4 2 will eat something and each thing and the different 2 are fussy and turn their noses up at various meals. I have one cat that has hypersensitive reactions to fish so I even might want to be very careful what I feed him. Mine are spoiled regardless.

He misses his mama. don't pick him up rub him in the box. He can also sense that you are anxious, so calm down. He has probable got some wild blood in him to, that will make him more difficult.

sounds like failure to thrive an inability to cope with the sensation of touch.

hold him as much as you can stand, or he doesn't have a chance. hang in there, what you are doing is very noble. thank you.
