I doubt that very much.
It is a controlled substance for us to even write out.

Ambien is a schedule IV controlled substance. Nothing on that list will ever be over the counter due to risks of abuse or dangerous overdose.

However, there is a new sleep aid, Rozerem, which is completely non-narcotic with few side effects and no potential for abuse. I could see that going OTC eventually.

I doubt it. Ambien is a controlled substance to the best of my knowledge. . .I had a heck of a time getting a prescription refilled from another pharmacy in the same chain as the one at home.

I can't see them turning that stuff loose on the general population.

No, I hadn't heard that, but I did see an advertisement for AmbienCR. The commercial stated it has two sides. One to get to sleep fast and one to stay asleep. Unlike the original Ambien where the disclaimer states you should only take them for a short period of time, AmbienCR says it is safe to take them for as long as your doctor allows. (or words to that effect anyway).

I hope so because I hate going to the doc to get my prescription refilled when it runs out. They should just have unlimited refills.....
