Just call them and tell them you don't have transportation to get to the courthouse.

That really works. I mean, what they gonna do? Drive a limo to pick you up?

Of course, that might not work in cities where they have a bus system. But where I live, I was summoned for jury duty 60 miles away. I mean, like, how am I supposed to get there when I don't have a car?
LOL Oh, by the way, I was excused from jury duty for lack of transportation.

Even if you do live in a city, you might not have enough money to ride a bus either.
Oh well.

It depends on your state's or county's legal rules. A person who fails to show up to jury duty without showing a reasonable excuse, could be subject to penalties which may include suspension of drivers license, a hefty fine, issuing an arrest warrant, and in some instances - jail time. Again, it depends on your county. A person who fails to show for jury duty may get summoned to court to explain to a judge why he or she failed to show.

In most jurisdictions, a "bench warrant" will be issued for your arrest.

Don't worry. The cops won't come and haul you off to jail.

But if you, say, get stopped for speeding...

Call the Court clerk and explain that -- you forgot -- the dog ate your summons -- your kid got sick... Whatever.

They will quickly forgive you and reissue a jury duty notice.

Jury duty is OK. Better than going to work, I'd say.

It is possible that the next time you are called you can be picked up and "Escorted" to jury duty by a few deputies. You can even fined for failure to show.
