Well.....this is a tricky question!
Man started using dress to keep of cold and also other external factors..so he can be comfortable while he ponders abt the science of life and advances as a civilization.
Then it became a standard for people to show that they are civilized by wearing the dress that the common public used.

The truth is we are not very alet and are living based on behaviour only.We do wat we see others doing or waht othes tel us to do.We have lost the touch of self-evaluation and this is a gross risk to our existence itself.
You can wear dress if you wish to..but then if oyu don't you may interrupt a thnking man by showing off things that you must not..
That is not wat civilization means to do..so finally to wear or nott o wear is your choice and desicion.

even though some of the answers are correct, there has always been the theory of Adam and eve and the apple being bitten, they both felt shame after this and this concept has gone on through the ages. I am religious, but not a fanatic and some of those old myths and proverbs still go a long way today.

Other animals are hairy/furry/armored etc. Our skin has lost almost all its natural defenses to the elements during evolution. Cold in winter, burned in summer without clothes!

Agreed. That it is considered civilized socially makes no sense. I'll go naked w/ you anywhere you want inside if I can wear clothes getting there...
