I would definitely vote for English to be the national language. In fact, I hope it comes up to vote so I can say something about it. Special distinction should be given to Native American languages. We already have translators for all languages, and I don't see a need for Native American subtitles or anything like that (and with the different languages that would get tricky anyway) but there should be some special distinction given to them as far as being "national".

The national language is English. That's why schools teach other languages as a 2ND language including Spanish.

I haven't heard anything new about it except on local fronts.

However, while I like the thought, the reality is that having an official language doesn't do much.

English was voted to be the official language of California years ago.

Could you tell?

They've been talking about this for ages. The U.S. is one of the few countries, if not the only one, that doesn't not have at least one national language. With it, they can require people to speak English to become a citizen.

Yes, you heard correctly. There are organizations that are trying to make the official language in the United States to be "English". As of right now, there is no Official language in the U.S. Isn't that strange?

Can't really understand why everyone is so upset about Official English Language law... Is English really in danger? I would guess it's more in danger from native speakers who butcher the language after years of (mis)education than some foreigners who come here and continue to speak their native tongue/s as they learn English. Where's the threat, really????!!!!

Ha Ha Ha...a law like this would never pass. "They" would appeal it and have it overturned as unconstitutional.

This country was founded on the English language...not 3rd world country Spanish.

Someone has started a petition drive to make this happen. I approve. Knowledge of English is already required for an immigrant to become a citizen.
