I take niacin as a supplement and let me tell you: niacin is one of the only vitamins where if you take too much it lets you know.
You will flush if you take too much: meaning your skin will turn beat red (if you're white) and you will become hot and itchy. Nothing too serious, but certainly uncomfortable for a couple hours. I used to take 500mg tablets and would frequently flush off those. After a couple months of not taking them I flushed off a 250mg half capsule.
If you were to take 3000mg during the course of a day, you would almost certainly flush, in fact that dose could be dangerous.

The above link will give you some info on niacin. It seems like the max safe dose is 2000 mg a day for long term usage, but it seemed like higher doses were OK just as long as it's for short term use only. Nausea, vomiting, abdominal cramps, faintness, and yellowish skin and eyes can be warning signs of long-term overdose. Be sure to see your doctor if you have any of these signs. I'm assuming that you are taking this high dose under the supervision of a physician; if not, you'll want to discontinue the high dose and see a physician at once.
Hope this helps!

Probably.
That's a not a huge amount, but you should start with a third of that and increase gradually, until you reach your desired dosage.
Aside from the usual flush of heat on your skin, usually on your neck and chest, too much too soon niacin can cause a drop in blood pressure, increase in glucose too fast, and several other bad results.
The worst symptoms I've ever had was when my neck turned red, and itched and felt prickly for a couple hours. I cut back the dosage, and I was fine.
Best to you.

Niacin is one of the B vitamins. They are all water soluble, thus, you pee out whatever you don't need. No way you could overdose on it. However, 3000mg is way over the recommended daily dose, so you don't need that much unless your doctor prescribed it.

If it is prescribed by a doctor for purposes of medication, NO. If not, YES.
